SDNP Quetta conducts 'Access' training workshop for WTTC April 10, 2001

SDNP conducted an Access workshop on April 10, 2001 for the Women Technical Training Center (WTTC) in Quetta. Forty-five members from the faculty and students actively participated in the workshop. WTTC is an institute imparting technical training specifically to women. Their IT section was well equipped with 25 computers.

Mr. Nadir Gul, Incharge of IUCN Balochistan Office began by briefing the audience about IUCN's and SDNP's roles in the sustainable development and information sectors. Ms. Zarin Syed of SDNP Quetta introduced the participants to the background, structure and mechanics involved in the usage of Internet and e-mail.

During the hands-on session, Ms Zarin demonstrated how to connect to the Internet using specific software, and browse through various informative websites, like Dawn, Jung and different search engines. The participants noted with great interest that they could now access the world's information at the click of a mouse. She illustrated the process of opening an e-mail account online, and how to compose, send and receive e-mails. Replying to participants' queries, she explained the process of hacking and how to avoid it.

In the end, the Principal of WTTC, Ms. Tasneem Akhtar, lauded SDNP's initiative for conducting such an informative training workshop for the participants. She also asked SDNP to develop and prepare other training courses regarding IT for them; and was keenly interested to learn that SDNP was willing to develop and design a website for their institute.
