Internet captivates young ladies of Government Girls College, Quetta April 24, 2001

SDNP believes in promoting gender equality, and the dissemination of technological information among young women is given equal, if not more, importance. Towards this end, an Access workshop was conducted by SDNP on 24th April 24th, 2001 for sixty participants comprising of the faculty and students of Government Girls College, Quetta.

This college is one of the main educational institutions for girls, providing Science and Arts, DCS, BCS, MCS, Bachelors and Masters degrees. Almost 80% of Balochistan' s girls are studying in this college.

Ms. Zarin began the workshop by explaining the basic usage of the Internet and email, its background, structure, and mechanics. An email account was also created for the College. Ninety percent of the participants were interested in obtaining Internet services and asked pertinent questions from the resource personnel.

During the hands-on session, Mr. Jan Mohammad demonstrated how to connect to the Internet and browse through various websites like Dawn, The News, and different search engines. The participants were thrilled to discover a world of information at their fingertips. They were also given tips on downloading information, e-commerce and avoiding hackers.

In the end, the Principal of the College, Ms. Jamila Qazi, thanked SDNP for their initiative. She requested another such workshop for their Computer students, including Web Authoring training for them so that they could design their personal websites.
