The
federal minister for education, Zubaida Jalal formally launched
the IUCN website "Learning to Live on Planet Earth"
on 27th April 2001, which offers a wide range of information
on the environment.
The
website (http://www.edu.sdnpk.org/
) caters to the need of all age groups, as well as those
belonging to different spheres of life. Besides, a kids'
corner segment, there is also provision for professionals,
researchers and journalists.
Ali
Reza, the co-ordinator of the educational programme, briefing
the minister, mentioned that the theme of the website in
the current year is "River Forest", while last
year it was "Mangroves".
According
to him, information is provided in accordance to the age
and need of each segment of society, with the intention
to seek their involvement in protection and conservation
of the treasures gifted by nature, which is also a prerequisite
to maintain ecology.
