SDNP's workshop excites curiosity at Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology, Khuzdar June 8, 2001

On 8th June 2001, SDNP Quetta conducted a workshop on "Effective use of Internet and Email", for the faculty and students of the Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology, Khuzdar at their premises. A total of 55 participants, comprising 40 faculty members and 15 students, attended the workshop.

After the opening remarks from the University's acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammad Shafi, the session was handed over to SDNP Quetta's City Coordinator, Mr. Jan Muhammad, who explained the role of IUCN/SDNP in promoting ICT's for development, their use for environmental awareness and information exchange with the 'global village', and elaborating upon SDNP's capacity building program through trainings and other services. He began the workshop by explaining the origin, structure, and mechanics required to connect to the Internet. The session ended with queries from the participants.

The online session involved connecting to the Internet; browsing district sites like Kech and Gwadar; Balochistan Conservation Strategy, Balochistan District Database; online newspapers sites; popular search engines; opening an email account and sending messages through it. The participants were thrilled to practically use the Internet  and asked various questions about the technology involved in the process.

In the end Mr. Usman Baloch, Chairman Electrical Engineering department, thanked SDNP/IUCN for organizing such a useful workshop for the faculty and students.
