University's future journalists conquer new frontiers
at SDNP's workshop |

SDNP Peshawar organized a one-day workshop on "Internet
Access and Effective Searching Techniques" for the
department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University
of Peshawar on June 16, 2001. It was attended by 25 participants,
including both the students as well as the faculty members.
Dr. Shah Jehan Sayed, Chairman department of Journalism
& Mass Communication made the inaugural address. He
lauded SDNP's pioneering role in the field of ICTs and knowledge
networking initiatives, and reaffirmed his full-fledged
support for it's activities in the campus as well as in
district level workshops. Mr. Abid Hussain, Information
Manager welcomed the participants on behalf of SDNP. Mr.
Tahir Islam Nizami began the session by explaining the history,
components and mechanics of the Internet; the World Wide
Web (WWW); effective searching techniques and search engines.
The session ended with queries from the interested participants.
The hands-on session was viewed as the most interesting
part of the workshop in which the entire SDNP team, including
Abid, Tahir, Waqar and Mukhtar A. Khan helped the participants
in viewing websites and applying various searching techniques
to gain the maximum amount of required information. In keeping
with their field of specialization, they were also shown
relevant online resources on journalism, mass media and
mass communication. The participants thanked SDNP for conducting
such an interesting workshop, which was tailor-made for
them as Pakistan's future journalists in various media.
