"Pakistan Special" is the first ever Pakistani
magazine for special people to be made available on the
Web (http://www.pakistanspecial.org/).
Exclusively for the handicapped community, this monthly
magazine is being published by a group of dedicated journalists
on a self-help basis. Its basic purpose is to provide education,
information, rehabilitation and recreation to them. The
mission is to create maximum awareness about the social,
educational and health problems of a deprived class of Pakistani
society.
Launched in 1999, the print edition is published from
Islamabad every month through the efforts of regular writers
as well as bureaus maintained both within the country and
abroad. Currently "Pakistan Special" has a readership
base of 3,000 plus in Pakistan, including Special Education
centres, NGOs, embassies, ministries, semi and non-semi
government departments and organizations. The online edition
of the magazine, with English and Urdu sections, provides
subscription and relevant contact information.
'Pakistan Special' has been brought online by the
Sustainable Development Networking Programme (SDNP) Pakistan.
SDNP-IUCN, a project of UNDP working under the aegis of
IUCN-The World Conservation Union, often works in ad hoc
coalitions with other organizations whose aims are consistent
with its agenda of using Information and Communication Technologies
(ICTs) for development.
