Chief Secretary launches official website of NWFP Bureau
of Statistics |

On
September 10th 2002, the Chief Secretary of NWFP, Mr. Shakil
Durrani, formally launched the official website of NWFP
Bureau of Statistics (www.nwfpbos.sdnpk.org), which contains
the essential development statistics of the province. The
website has been developed by Sustainable Development Networking
Program of IUCN Pakistan.
This
website contains the district-wise statistical analysis
of NWFP, searchable by its 24 districts and graphical presentation.
Categories include education; electricity; employment; health;
industries; irrigated and forest areas; land utilization;
yield per hectare; population; roads; post offices; rural
drinking water and telephones. Online publications include
the development statistics and district-wise socio-economic
indicators of NWFP and FATA. A map of NWFP; the organizational
setup of the Bureau of Statistics, its publications, contact
information and related links are also available on this
site.
A
briefing was also given to Mr. Shakil Durrani by Mr. Mohammad
Mujib Khan Head, IUCN Sarhad Program, which was also attended
by Secretary Environment, Mr. Khalid Sultan, Director General
EPA, Dr. Bashir Khan and other government functionaries.
The
chief secretary was informed of the various IUCN Pakistan
initiatives in NWFP, particularly Program Support for Northern
Pakistan (PSNP) and Sarhad Provincial Conservation Strategy
(SPCS) Phase-IV. Responding to the proposal for government
ownership of and contribution to the SPCS Mid-Term Review,
the Chief Secretary maintained that government would play
its due role and provide all possible support to the process.
