SDNP puts Northern Areas on the world's electronic map |
January

The
Northern Areas (NAs) have a unique and critical role to
play in the sustainable development of Pakistan. Although
they span a relatively small geographical area, the Northern
Areas serve as vital catchments for the Indus River, upon
which a majority of Pakistan's irrigated agriculture and
hydroelectricity depends. They also contain the nation's
most important natural forests, rich mineral reserves, and
a wealth of biodiversity. Dramatic scenery, some of the
world's highest mountains, and a variety of cultural and
archaeological sites make the NAs one of the most visited
tourist destinations in the country.
In
order to put this unique region on the electronic map of
the world, SDNP has developed the Northern Areas Development
Gateway (NADG), which aims to provide access to development
information related to this most picturesque of areas in
Pakistan. It seeks to provide a platform for all relevant
government agencies, donors, and non-governmental organizations
as well as the communities to share their information and
experiences.Information about the NAs governance structure,
news updates, photo gallery, tourism links, the Programme
Support for Northern Pakistan (PSNP); the Mountain Areas
Conservancy Project (MACP) and the Northern Areas Strategy
for Sustainable Development (NASSD) are also available on
this website. http://www.northernareas.org.pk
