develops website for Pakistan's earthquake-stricken
Northern Areas |
January
2003 |
Pakistan's
Northern Areas were recently devastated by a severe earthquake,
the first on the night of 2nd and 3rd November and then
again on the night of 21st and 22nd November 2002.
The
Government of Northern Areas, Pakistan Army, Planning and
Development Department, are all actively participating in
emergency relief efforts. In order to keep people around
the world, and especially those who are far away from their
beloved land, posted regarding the latest developments,
the Northern Areas administration, with the cooperation
of the Swiss Development Cooperation and NORAD, requested
IUCN's Pakistan Programme to create this disaster relief
website.
Developed
by the Sustainable Development Networking Programme, the
site's salient features include daily news updates, photographs
of the earthquake-stricken victims and Pakistan's efforts
to provide aid to them. The latest reports and situational
analyses available on other national and international disaster
relief management websites, and contact information for
donations are also available online at
